Art Club! #1

small but cosy :)

Today we ran our very first session of art club! It was quite impromptu as we hadn't been certain how many people would show up, and because only four people eventually came, only me and Irina stayed to run it.

We had decided beforehand that we wanted our first session to be quite relaxed and friendly and because there were so little people, I think that we succeeded. We chose a fun still life and brought out the soft pastels, encouraging everybody to simply go for it, without thinking too much. It was designed to let them be a bit more free with a conventional subject such as a still life.

We put on some music and talked while we drew, and although we often meandered from the subject of art, there was still a positive, friendly atmosphere. When it came time to wrap up, the girls assured us that they would come next week too, and we encouraged them to bring friends along too. We had some issues with telling them a concrete day however, as I can only do Tuesdays and Ira can do Mondays or Thursdays, but that is something we agreed to discuss tomorrow, and let them know later on.

They also gave us permission to exhibit their work in the downstairs corridor on one of the empty boards which we claimed  as our own, and we arranged to decorate the board and hang up the drawings tomorrow.

I really enjoyed art club. I loved the very act of drawing, but doing it among such nice company and such warm support made it all the better, and I sincerely hope that the people who attended managed to take some of that home with them. I look forward to continuing next week!
